The 2025 Walker Cup is less than a year away, and the preparations have already begun. The biennial tournament is a competition between amateur men golfers from the USA, Great Britain, and Ireland.
Recently, 16 players from the USA were invited for the practice session next month. Amateur world no. 1 Luke Clanton is headlining the practice line-up. The 20-year-old has had an impressive year, becoming the runner-up at the John Deere Classic. He also made his US Open debut at Pinehurst this season.
The US team will be led by four-time US Mid-Amatuer champion Nathan Smith at Cypress Point next year. After the 2025 edition, the tournament will be moved from odd to even years due to other international competitions and the Olympics. The USGA has already announced Smith will retain his captaincy for the 2026 Walker Cup in Ireland. Smith spoke about the practice session invites (via USGA):
