The first rival any F1 driver wants to beat is his teammate. That's something that has remained universal in the sport since its inception because the teammate is the only driver with the same tools.
There are two different approaches to constructing team structures in F1. The first involves having two of the best possible talents on the grid and then placing them in the car. The second approach is building the team around one driver and then using the second driver as the supporting act.
