The Week 15 Thursday Night Football showdown against the Los Angeles Rams was a significant matchup for the San Francisco 49ers, who were looking to keep their slim hopes of securing a playoffs spot alive. Alas, that wasn't meant to be.
In what was a pretty stale encounter between the two NFC heavyweights, neither team managed a touchdown, but the Rams eventually won 12-6. As a result, the Niners' playoff chances were all but decimated.
On KNBR radio, franchise legend Steve Young, a three-time Super Bowl champion, said about the collapse of his beloved franchise this season:
"There was such a desire to be in the Super Bowl. That’s why I feel so terrible today about this Super Bowl window. It’s not going to be as open as it was last year. Those guys that are down there that have a longing to win it, to have one. I feel for them today because it just got to a distance right now that’s super tough," Young said on the show.
