Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews traveled to Germany during his recovery from an upper-body injury. According to Steve Simmons of The Toronto Sun, Matthews sought treatment from Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt. The German doctor is known for working with top athletes like Usain Bolt and for supporting the use of Actovegin, a drug banned in North America.
"(Dr. Hans-Wilhelm is known for) advocating the usage of the drug Actovegin... Actovegin is the same drug that famed Toronto healer Dr. Tony Galea was arrested for crossing the border with years ago." Simmons wrote in December 1 column of The Toronto Sun.
Matthews returned to the lineup last Saturday after missing nine games. He contributed two assists in Toronto’s 5-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, logging 20:23 of ice time and winning 16 of 24 faceoffs. On Monday, he scored his sixth goal of the season in a 4-1 victory against the Chicago Blackhawks. Matthews had three shots and three hits in 19:43 of ice time.
