Premier League giants Chelsea have reportedly joined Real Madrid and Manchester United in the race to sign Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen. The 19-year-old centre-back joined the Cherries from Juventus this summer for a reported €15.2 million transfer fee.
Huijsen has been one of the mainstays in the Bournemouth backline this season. The Amsterdam-born defender has played 14 games across competitions and scored a couple of goals. In the Premier League, he averages an impressive 3.9 clearances per game and boasts an 85% passing accuracy. The Spanish U-21 international has also been included in the team of the week thrice.
At present, Chelsea have six centre-backs in their lineup - Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Renato Veiga. However, Fofana and Badiashile are sidelined due to injury. Therefore, Maresca is seemingly looking for a backup option to reinforce the team's backline.
