MLB insider breaks down 4x All-Star free agent first baseman’s fit with Yankees and Mets - Source: Imagn
It's easy to forget that Pete Alonso is also a free agent when much of the attention is toward Juan Soto's sweepstakes. Alonso, a four-time All-Star, has played his entire career with the New York Mets but is looking forward to his next destination.
Alonso is a cherished personality in the Queens. While the Mets fanbase would want him back, David Stearns & Co. won't be much inclined to offer him a long-term deal, as the first baseman is 29.
SNY's Andy Martino addressed Alonso's free agency and his potential fit with the Mets and the New York Yankees in case either team doesn't land Soto.
"I would say with the Mets, it's sort of a complicated situation with Pete Alonso," Martino said (4:50 onwards) on Foul Territory. "The attention would certainly turn, publicly, to, 'Okay, you didn’t get Soto, so what’s going on with Pete?' I’m sure Pete is eager to get his free agency going too, so that’d be something you’d hear more about.
