As many as 12 former captains of the Ryder Cup Team USA signed and sent a letter after the report that each player would be paid $400,000 for their appearance on the team according to Sports Illustrated. Their goal is to organize against this change.
One captain, who preferred to remain anonymous, said (via SI):
“This was never intended to get out. This was done with the idea that you should play for your country and not reap financial benefit. We are trying to honor those who came before us and honor the Ryder Cup. It’s given us a lot of great moments in our lives. We’ve just wanted to show support.”
