Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that on-loan forward Raheem Sterling is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury. The former England international adds to the worries of the Spanish manager, who lost star forward Bukayo Saka to injury at the weekend.
In what has increasingly become a rare sight, Sterling featured from the start as the Gunners overcame Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup on December 18. He was taken off after 70 minutes with the scores level, with Saka taking his place on the pitch. The 30-year-old was absent from the squad for the game against Palace in the league on Saturday, raising questions for the manager.
Arteta provided an update on the status of the Chelsea man in an interview, pointing out that he had suffered a knee injury. The Spanish manager revealed that he will miss a number of weeks with the injury, which will be re-assessed in the coming days, saying (via Fabrizio Romano on X):
