Former Inter Miami striker Leonardo Campana explained Luis Suarez's role in his decision to leave the Lionel Messi-led side this year. Campana left the Herons to sign for New England Revolution earlier this month for a record $2.5 million in General Allocation Money (GAM) divided between 2025 and 2026.
The 24-year-old remained one of Inter Miami's significant players under former coach Tata Martino, contributing nine goals and two assists in 35 outings across competitions in 2024.
However, due to the presence of stalwarts like Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, Campana was often relegated to a backup role. His departure will enable the Herons to make another international signing for 2025 and 2026.
In an interview with Spanish website EFE, Leonardo Campana explained that Luis Suarez's presence had a role to play in his decision to leave Inter Miami. He said (via Inter Miami News):
