After a valiant performance on the road against the Buffalo Bills in Week 16, New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo likely expected his team to put up a strong fight against the Los Angeles Chargers at Gillette Stadium on Saturday. However, it was quite the opposite.
The visitors' defense completely nullified the home team's offense, giving up only 181 yards and one touchdown. Their offense dominated on the ground and in the air, racking up 428 yards, and left with a 40-7 win, confirming their spot in the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Patriots dropped to 3-13, the second-worst record in the league behind the 2-13 New York Giants.
In the postgame press conference, Mayo did not mince words about his team's performance and admitted the team was completely outmatched, outcoached, and outplayed by a superior team. When asked about his assessment of the game, the rookie head coach said:
