MLB insider claims Paul Goldschmidt "more intriguing option" for Yankees over Alex Bregman, Christian Walker - Source: Imagn
According to MLB insider Robert Murray, the next best free agent for the New York Yankees could be Paul Goldschmidt, a 37-year-old first baseman free agent who is coming off a year hitting .245, 22 home runs and 65 RBIs.
On Thursday's "Baseball Insiders" podcast with Adam Weinrib, Murray discussed the next Yankees move and who among Alonso, Walker and Bregman makes more sense.
"If you look at a Bregman type or a Christian Walker type, they have the qualifying offers attached to them, which could hinder the chances of the Yankees pursuing them," Murray said (9:22 onwards).
"This, I think, makes Goldschmidt a more intriguing option. I’m sure having another aging first baseman is not exactly what Yankees fans want to hear right now, but he would be an upgrade over Anthony Rizzo. I think he’d be a really good addition. Him being in New York, in that ballpark, would be a good thing for him. So, we’ll see. But yeah, they’ve got plenty of options to consider here."
