The Chicago Cubs went on a limb to sign Cody Bellinger to a three-year, $80 million contract only to trade him off a year later to the New York Yankees, who will also receive $5 million in cash consideration in exchange for pitcher Cody Poteet.

However, the move makes perfect sense for the Yankees who could use a versatile defensive player in Bellinger, who could play anywhere in outfield and first base, according to Robert Murray. Moreover, Bellinger's presence would benefit Aaron Judge's career, with Murray saying (via The Baseball Insiders podcast 4:05 onwards):

"As for his position, they're leaving it open, but you have to figure most of his time will be in center field. That makes plenty of sense because it moves Judge out of center field and back to right field, where he’s at his best. This creates a much more effective outfield while also prolonging Judge’s career.
