Colorado Avalanche forward Mikko Rantanen believes he can command a $14 million average annual salary on the open market, according to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun. Rantanen is in the final year of a six-year, $55.5 million contract.

LeBrun reported on Insider Trading that Rantanen and his agent think the player is worth as much as Edmonton Oilers center Leon Draisaitl, who will make $14 million per season on his new contract extension starting next year. Draisaitl's deal is currently the highest in the NHL.

"I'll tell you right now I think Rantanen believes he can make 14 million on the open market," said LeBrun.
