The San Francisco Giants missing out on Corbin Burnes has left them with some room to splurge their cash elsewhere. They could be looking to add some infield depth with a possible pursuit of Pete Alonso.
As reported by Giants insider Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, the team is interested in Alonso to address the 1B/DH position.
"The Giants remain in the market for a first baseman or DH, too, and four-time All-Star Pete Alonso, who has hit 226 home runs in six seasons with the Mets, is on their radar," Slusser wrote.
Currently, LaMonte Wade Jr. is expected to be the team's primary first baseman. The Giants were also expected to bump up young prospect Bryce Eldridge, who is set to make his Triple-A debut this season, to share the workload with Wade as the season progresses. However, if they sign Pete Alonso, there are two combinations that the Giants can look to achieve.
