As the MLB offseason moves on, the New York Mets find themselves in a difficult situation regarding their star first baseman, Pete Alonso. Recent reports show that the Mets and Alonso are experiencing a "sizable gap" in contract negotiations, leading to frustration among fans.
With the Mets' recent big investment in superstar Juan Soto, the question arises whether Alonso’s future with the team is secure.
According to sources, including Jon Heyman of the New York Post on Thursday, there is a "sizable gap" in talks between the Mets and 4x All-Star Alonso. Heyman remarked that it "doesn't mean he's gone," but "no quick deal appears at hand."
As per CBS Sports, the Mets reportedly offered a seven-year deal worth $158 million last summer, which Alonso and his agent, Scott Boras, known for getting big deals for his clients, turned down in hopes of securing a more lucrative contract.
